Webinar Description:
Foundational Literacy Practices for the 3-6 Classroom draws connections between the Montessori approach to literacy and the science of reading. Attendees will learn about the neuroscience of reading and explore how the Montessori Language philosophy maps to current models for reading. Participants will gain practical ideas for enriching spoken language development, learn innovative extensions for the Sandpaper Letters, and explore the versatility of the Moveable Alphabet. Four key strategies are offered for deepening foundational literacy: Sound game activities for blending, presenting letter name and sound simultaneously, including word mapping and word chaining activities with the movable alphabet, and using the heart word method for teaching puzzle words. Equal parts theory and implementation, this dynamic presentation offers a grounding in how we learn to read, while providing educators with techniques and activities to nurture essential early literacy skills within the 3-6 classroom.
